My friends and I drove to Richmond to check out the newly opened Snowy Village Dessert Cafe. I’ve been looking forward to it for weeks since I’ve never really had Korean bingsoo before so I didn’t know what to expect other than the fact that it’s going to be shaved ice made out of milk instead of water . We ended up ordering the cheesecake, strawberry, matcha, and injeolmi bingsoo between the five of us to share . I believe they were about $8 each for the regular size. In the end, we also added an order of taiyaki with nutella, custard, and red bean. You can 3 for $10.
To my surprise, it took a bit of time for everything to arrive at our table even though they had like 6-8 people working in the back! Our order of taiyaki were the first to arrive at the table- they came piping hot which meant they were made to order. The outer layer had a nice flaky-crispy texture with sizeable sugar crystals compared to traditional taiyakis. I would recommend the nutella and red bean! The custard filling tasted a bit sour and funny to me.
The first couple of bites of the bingsoo were pretty good, but after those few bites it gets a bit boring because you’re basically eating the same thing over after the toppings are gone. Out of the four, I liked the matcha bingsoo most while my friends enjoyed the cheesecake one.
