Yah-Yah-Ya Ramen

I will always make an excuse to come to Richmond. The restaurants here are seriously endless and I’m constantly craving Asian cuisine. Most of the restaurants on my wish list on Zomato are actually in Richmond and they just keep adding up… Yah-Yah-Ya Ramen has been on my radar for quite some time now so I was excited to finally get the chance to check it out and get my ramen fix.

Yah-Yah-Ya opened their doors back in June 2014 so they are still relatively new. The staff members were very courteous and promptly seated our party of 5 with some hot green tea. We came around 6pm for dinner so the restaurant was not at full capacity yet (phew). But literally 5-10 minutes after we were seated, a crowd had already formed at the entrance! They revamped their menu from their grand opening with drawings on their menu which gave it a very cute touch. Note: you choose how hard you want your noodles, the level of taste (saltiness), and amount of oil in your ramen.

IMG_1689I had a super hard time deciding what I wanted to get! The obvious choice in the end was to go with their No. 1 Ramen: Shoyu Ramen (Regular $9.75) with hard noodles, normal taste and oil . Their Shoyu Ramen is ‘Ie-Kei’ soup base which basically means pork soy sauce. This gives the broth a thick and cloudy appearance. My bowl of ramen came with chashu, toasted seaweed, nitamago (egg) and spinach as advertised. The broth was nice and flavourful, but a little too salty for my liking. I would recommend going with ‘light taste’. The chashu seemed a little too budget as they were sliced super thin.

Both my friends ordered the Spicy Miso Ramen (Regular $10.75 Large $12.25). They commented on how salty and one dimensional the flavour of the broth tasted. So they definitely do not recommend this. The tonkatsu ramen was also a letdown for my other friend. He’s usually the type who can eat a lot, but even he left his food unfinished! Overall, this place was a disappointment, but if you’re ever in the area, do give their Shoyu Ramen a try.
