Over the weekend, a craft fair was held at the PNE Forum so it was a good excuse to grab a quick bite nearby before heading over. As a huge fan of tacos, I decided to skip out on making the effort to try out a new restaurant in the area and headed over to Tacofino for lunch with a friend. Tacofino started out as a food truck back in 2009 and have continued to expand their taco empire since. In addition to the food truck business, they also operate two restaurants with a third one opening up in Yaletown.
The menu here is pretty simple during their lunch service. They offer a select range of tacos and burritos. My friend and I ordered their two tacos for $11 lunch deal and an order of banana churros ($7). I normally order a side of chips and salsa as well, but since it was only the two of us, we decided to skip out on the appetizer and split the dessert instead.
When I re-visit restaurants, I tend to stick with my favourites so I ended up with the Fish (Pacific Cod) and Tuna Taco. My fish taco was generously filled with a huge slice of tempura battered Pacific Cod, cabbage, salsa fresca and chipotle mayo on a soft flour tortilla. You can never go wrong with this one!
The Tuna Taco consisted of a lightly seared albacore tuna, ginger, wakame salad, cabbage, salsa fresca, and wasabi mayo. The addition of the salsa fresca didn’t really compliment the other ingredients incorporated, so I would have preferred it without! Nevertheless, it was still enjoyable to eat.
The banana churros had arrived by the time we were finishing up our tacos. The last time I visited this place back in the summer, I was given banana sriracha ice cream to dip in. This time around, the ice cream had been replaced with something different. Both my friend and I couldn’t really pinpoint what we were dipping our churros in as it was quite tasteless. Save yourself the extra calories and just eat the churros plain.
This place always hits the spot whenever I’m craving for tacos! I’ll definitely be back again… again.. and again! 🙂
