Happy Hour at WildTale Coastal Grill in Yaletown is offered daily from 3-6PM and 9PM- close featuring a range of small places all priced at a very reasonable $6. Similar to Joe Fortes and many seafood-driven restaurants, they also offer shuck oysters ($2 each/ minimum 1 dozen). My friends and I ended up ordering everything off of the menu except oysters. We started off with some drinks- I was very happy with my white sangria as it was nice and refreshing. Food arrived shortly after our drinks which was nice as we were all starting to get pretty hungry! Everything that we ordered was pretty good.
Humboldt Squid: served with spicy dill yogurt. The seasoning for this dish wasn’t evenly coated when we were served so some bites were definitely a lot saltier, but squeezing some lemon juice on top did make it a lot more refreshing!
Blackened Fish Tacos: Each order comes with two tacos served with avocado crema. They weren’t the best fish tacos, but still passable. I don’t think I would order these again since it was too spicy!
4 Cheese Croquettes: These tasted like risotto balls to me. Nice and crunchy on the outside, super creamy and rich on the inside. I enjoyed dipping these with the smoked pepper ketchup.
AAA Beef Carpaccio: The carpaccio came with arugula salad topped with grainy mustard aioli and parmesan shave. The parmesan served with the arugula salad was stale so it was not as enjoyable as I wanted it to be! Portion-wise, can’t complain for the price.
Baked Macaroni: Since we sat at the outdoor patio, this dish got cold really fast along with our mussels 😦 The pasta was cooked a little over al dente .. wasn’t a fan of this one either.
Parmesan Fries: To my surprise, the fries were my favourite! Definitely on par with Joe Fortes. Amazingly crisp with a dose of garlic goodness. I pigged out on this one the most 🙂
If I’m ever in the area again, I would definitely come back for a drink and give their oysters a try !
