My favourite kind of socializing almost always involves food. As much as I embrace dining alone, enjoying dinner with friends or family can also have its benefits! Bob and I usually meet up for a quick bite on a monthly basis whenever she’s in the area. We settled for Pepper Lunch since she’s been wanting to try it ever since they opened on Cambie Street. You can read my first visit here .
We arrived for an early dinner so there was only one other table being occupied in the restaurant. I had my mind set on the Salmon Pepper Rice with egg($11.95+$1.50) while Bob settled with the Unagi Pepper Rice ($13.95). Both of us decided to add the combo for an extra $2.75 for miso soup and pop (1 free refill).Since it is a fast-food type establishment, I’m starting to like the ordering system here as they are pretty efficient with having food arrive at the table in a timely manner. Our food arrived in separate trays with sweet honey brown and garlic soy sauce.
My salmon came slightly raw in bite size pieces on their signature sizzling hot plate. The type of salmon they serve here is BC Steelhead Salmon so you can definitely taste the quality here which kind of justifies the price tag a bit. We let our dish sizzle for a bit before mixing it all up with our sauces. All of their rice dishes come with corn, green onion and their pepper seasoning. I definitely enjoyed my salmon steak a lot more than the beef pepper rice from my previous visit. The only disappointment was the miso soup! It came in a tiny bowl and was super salty. I left my miso soup unfinished.
Bob’s Unagi Pepper Rice ($13.95) came with a few slices of unagi with egg along with her rice. Bob wasn’t a big fan of the Unagi Pepper Rice in general. Portion-wise, it was a bit of a letdown as she had expected more for the price she was paying. If she were to ever come back, she would opt for no pepper (haha).
