Pajo’s is the only Oceanwise certified fish and chips shop in the Lower Mainland with four locations to date. I had a huge craving for some fish & chips last week, so I dragged the boyfriend along to their Port Moody location at Rocky Point Park . Upon our arrival, we did not expect such a huge line up at all! Apparently, there was a block party going on for the city so parking was super stressful that day. On a regular day, there is usually ample parking space. The boyfriend has never been to any of their locations before so we decided to get an order of One of Each Fish & Chips ($22), Cod Tacos ($15), and a Soft Drink ($2.50).
They have a separate stand for customers to grab condiments and utensils- I saw a lot of people add seasoning salt to their fries.
After an hour of waiting, we finally got our order! The One of Each Fish & Chips ($22) comes with Pacific Wild Cod, Pacific Wild Salmon, and Pacific Wild Halibut in their signature tempura style batter. Out of the three, we enjoyed the halibut the most. The halibut was flakey, tender, and lean – it tasted even more delicious with their house-made tartar sauce. You could definitely taste the freshness of the salmon and cod as well. The tempura style batter gave the fish a good crunch that wasn’t too overwhelming or oily. Their hand-cut fries are locally sourced Kennebec potatoes- they were nice and crispy which was nice for a change since I’ve had bad experiences with their fries before 😐
Our order of Cod Tacos ($15) came in three and the portion size was huge! Their tacos are filled with deep fried cod, coleslaw, and fresh salsa served on a soft tortilla. They used to serve their tacos with sriracha mayo, so the use of fresh salsa instead is a recent change. Warning: Messy to eat yet very filling and delicious. 🙂
Compared to my previous visits here, both the fish and fries this time around tasted much more fresh- thanks to the crowd they were expecting that day. 😀
