The popular Glowbal Group empire having finally set foot in Burnaby opening up their third location of its Trattoria brand right across from Metrotown. I’ve always had good experiences with their food and service at Glowbal’s other establishments, so expectations were quite high for this one!
My boyfriend and I had some time to kill before our movie at SilverCity Metropolis so we headed to Trattoria for their $12 Pasta Tuesday special. They’re almost always booked on Tuesdays during dinner service so it was a good thing that I had made reservations a week in advance to avoid having to line up.
The outside looks quite deceiving as I initially thought it would be just as cramped as their Kitsilano location, but the moment we walked in, I was surprised to see how spacious and nicely ventilated the space is! Aside from ordering our entrees, we went with a side of their famous brussels sprouts to start off.
Brussels Sprouts ($7.95) The brussels sprouts are crisped with capers, lemon, chili pepper, and garnished with parmigiano reggiano. Not as mouth-watering as Italian Kitchen’s brussels sprouts, but they were still enjoyable to eat. Next time, I would probably ask the waitress to do a heavier load of parmigiano reggiano! 🙂
Spaghetti & Signature Meatballs ($12.00) served with spicy tomato basil sauce, herbed ricotta. My all-time favouriate pasta is their Truffled Spaghetti & Signature Meatball- unfortunately, I was not able to find it on their Tratt Tuesday menu! Nevertheless, I really enjoyed the red based sauce incorporated. The addition of the herb ricotta added a nice amount of creaminess that wasn’t too overwhelming. On the other hand, the meatballs were quite disappointing! They were too tightly compact causing a turn-out of three overcooked, tough meatballs. I only ate half of one meatball and packed the rest to go.
Penne Arrabiata ($12.00) served with pancetta, garlic, tomatoes, burratra, peperocino. Arrabiata is a tomato sauce flavoured with some Italian spices and red peppers. The boyfriend didn’t really taste the spicy kick he was looking for in his tomato based sauce, so he was a bit disappointed 😦 Nevertheless, he still happily finished his plate of pasta.
For some odd reason, every time we go out for Italian, my entrees end up being almost double the size of his 😛
