Hanwoori is a Korean restaurant located in Burnaby just off the intersection of Kingsway and Imperial Street. The restaurant is known for their family style dishes and BBQ combos. Some of their tables have built in grills installed for patrons to cook their own meat! An experience no one should miss out on 🙂
Although my boyfriend and I were craving for some Korean BBQ that evening, we could not justify the $60 price tag for the cheapest combo that they had available on the menu 😦 As a result, we settled for an entrée and soup to share between the two of us. There’s always next time for Korean BBQ 🙂
Korean meal is never complete with banchan! We were given six side dishes from kimchi, pickled daikon, potato, bean sprouts, raw broccoli, and bamboo shoot to nibble on. Extra side dishes are $1.50 each.
Galbi Vegetable Bokkum ($21.95) Prime beef ribs sautéed with assorted vegetables in special sauce. This was a really good choice for sharing. Portion was very generous (better deal than the individual BBQ meat cuts they had available for the same price)! Nice variety of vegetables ranging from button mushroom, onion, red/green bell pepper, and broccoli. The beef short ribs had a delicious marinade and were nicely cooked through leaving the meat very tender and enjoyable to eat.
Bulgogi Dukbaegi ($11.95)+ Rice ($2.00). Marinated beef stew with rice cake, sweet potato noodles, and assorted vegetables. Bulgogi in Korean means marinated beef that is either grilled or broiled. Initially, I thought it was funny that my boyfriend ordered this dish since he was the one who said he wanted a rice dish. I later found out he thought the dish would be similar to bibimbap, but with bulgogi (marinated beef) in it. Oh well! It’s essentially a hotpot with bulgogi and a simple stock. Despite the hot weather, I was very satisfied with this happy accident 🙂
One thing I wanted to make note is .. service was terrible! Having the service bell button installed is completely useless if you’re going to completely ignore the table number appearing on the screen.
