Purebread is a Whistler-based bakery known for their selection of pastries, baked goods and bread. Even after six years in the bakery business, owners Paula and Mark Lumming of Purebread are constantly inspired to expand and tweak their menu. The bread menu itself has over 20 different types of loaves. Some of their more unique flavours include buckwheat sour cherry pecan, lavender rosemary, hazelnut fig and many more!
My last visit here wasn’t particularly pleasant. I had dropped by their Vancouver Gastown location to check out their famous ‘Crack Bar’ after class. First bite into the pastry, I found a strand of questionable hair and spoke up about it. The bakery dealt with it very professionally and offered a $15 voucher on my next visit. It wasn’t until a year later that I finally had the opportunity to re-visit the bakery with a friend.
With $15 to spend, we settled for the Zucchini Loaf ($4), Crack Bar ($3.75), and Prosciutto and Egg Brioche ($5.25).
Zucchini Lime and Pistachio Loaf ($4) My friend had recommended the zucchini loaf since it’s her absolute favourite. The loaf tasted delicious and moist and delivered in texture. The addition of the lime in the cream cheese frosting added a nice subtle tangy sweetness that wasn’t too overpowering. The slice was huge! We only managed to finish half of it and packed the rest to go.
Prosciutto and Egg Brioche ($5.25) I really enjoyed the combination of the prosciutto and egg. It’s not your conventional brioche as it resembles more of a puffed pastry/tart than anything. The crust was nice and flaky and had good amount of cheese to go with the egg and prosciutto. The egg was a little overcooked in my opinion as I do prefer my eggs to be a bit runny on the inside.
Crack Bar ($3.75) You would have to be a sugar addict to finish this whole thing. Their signature dessert is packed with butter, heavy cream, brown sugar, and more sugar. But it’s amazing. Think pecan pie but without the nuts. 🙂
With a rotating menu of over 100 items, there’s always something new waiting to delight your sweet or savoury tooth!
