The concept of cat cafés initally started out in Taiwan in the late 1990s and became a huge hit with the Japanese tourists who later helped jumpstart the trend. Almost two decades later, they’ve finally made their way to North America!
Catfe is located inside Vancouver International Village Mall (Tinseltown) on the second floor. Space is limited as they only allow up to 16 people at a time per hour so reservations are recommended to avoid being turned away when you check-in.
‘Catmission’ is $5 with café purchase or $8 per person.
I went with an Iced Americano ($2.95) with my admission. It tasted pretty standard. My friend got the Chocolate Cat Cake Nom ($2.95) and thoroughly enjoyed it. A lot of their treats are cat-themed which I thought was pretty neat! Once you make your purchase, you head over to the next section to enter the sanctuary.
Separate room for the more ‘playful’ cats. Max 3 people at a time in this separate room
Before you leave, check out their cool cat merchandise!
Since I went in the late afternoon, all the cats were napping! So my tip would be to come in the morning or early afternoon if you want to get the opportunity to play and pet the cats. The hour did go by pretty quickly for me – Personally, I didn’t think it was worth the $8. The play area isn’t exactly interactive as they only have a few toys and cat furniture sparsely laid out. There were 13 cats to play with, but they all seemed a bit grouchy and overwhelmed when I tried to pet them. I don’t blame them- half of the people visiting the cafe looked like crazy cat ladies 😛 If you’re a cat person, you will probably love this place. If you’re impartial to cats – it could be a hit or miss.
