Le Tea is a new Taiwanese dessert café that opened up in the Continental Plaza featuring bubble tea and other Asian-inspired desserts like matcha soft serve. I dropped by this place after dinner at Gyo-O to satisfy my sweet tooth with the boyfriend. Funny enough, we visited this location a few weeks ago hoping to try their matcha soft serve before heading to the Richmond Night Market, but the machine was broken that day 😦
Compared to other bubble tea joints, Le Tea has an extensive list of selected tea-based drinks. I believe have their own private selection of customized tea blends given their labelled tea tins placed above the countertop. Walking in, the place has a bit of a hipster vibe to it given the feature of an exposed brick wall, contemporary furniture, and use of monochromatic featured artwork.
The succulent plant adds a very cute touch to contrast the contemporary dark wooden furniture.
Matcha Soft Serve with Cone ($3) For some reason, their matcha soft serve cream with cone is cheaper than getting it in a cup. The consistency of the soft serve was very creamy and smooth. However, the matcha flavour was very subtle. Nothing to really to get excited for.
Milk Tea (Small $4.20, Large $4.70) All of their drinks include pearls as a default. You can also customize your drink on sweetness (0%-120%), ice, and extra toppings ($0.50). My boyfriend wanted to play it safe and ordered their signature milk tea. He thought it was pretty standard for a bubble tea joint. The pearls were nice and chewy though!
As a huge matcha fan, this place did not live up to the hype. Cash only.
