Juillet Café is a charming coffee shop located in Burquitlam by Lougheed Highway. They are attached to their beauty salon, Juillet Beauty Centre best known for their extensive range of health and beauty services. Their coffee shop boasts sleek wood paneling with a few contemporary elements creating a very warm and cozy ambiance.
I had a really hard time picking out just one pastry and a drink since I wanted to try them all! They had a couple of sliced cakes available on their revolving cake stand, but they looked like they had been sitting there for awhile. Given that this place does not yield a lot of traffic, I wasn’t too sure about the freshness of their items. I believe only some of the baked goods are made in house.

For drinks, my boyfriend went with the London Fog ($4.75) while I stuck with good ol’ Americano ($2.75) My boyfriend liked his London Fog a lot more than Beaucoup’s Bakery since it was less sweet. I personally thought it was sweeter than Beaucoup’s 😛 My Americano was not bad.. the espresso flavour was pretty bold with slight bitter aftertaste.
Coffee Bun ($4.50) Boyfriend got the coffee bun to go with his London Fog. The pastry had a bright orange hue which I found odd. I’m not too sure if it should even be called Coffee Bun because it tasted more like a plain morning bun than anything. Unfortunately, this was a letdown. The bun was soft, but extremely tasteless. Our favourite place is still Coffee Bun in Coquitlam.
Croffle ($3.95) + Ice Cream (+$2). The server tried to push the addition of ice cream with my croffle, but I politely declined. Apparently this is Juillet Cafe’s specialty. It’s not always available on their menu which also means it’s not made in house. It took over 10 minutes for my order to arrive on the table so it must have been frozen ? Fresh batter would have taken only a few minutes on the waffle iron 🙄 This came with four dollops of whipped cream on the side. The croffle wasn’t what I had expected at all. It had a stronger croissant taste… it kind of resembled a stale croissant flattened with sugar crystals inside. It was also a bit on the dry side. The whipped cream was a little too sweet as well.
Both the boyfriend and I agreed that their baked goods weren’t as impressive as we had hoped. However, we would definitely be back for their drinks and ambiance!
