Growing up, traditional Asian desserts never really appealed to me. The idea of having red bean or green bean soup for dessert after a meal was what I disliked the most whenever my family went out for Chinese. It wasn’t until my recent trip to Hong Kong last summer that allowed me to really appreciate Asian desserts for its natural sweetness paired with simple ingredients like taro, pumpkin, and grass jelly.
Meet Fresh is a popular Taiwanese dessert chain that specializes in of hot and cold desserts mixed in with their signature taro balls and grass jelly. Everything on the menu here is prepared with natural ingredients with no added preservatives. I’ve always wanted to visit this place for a while now and luckily they expanded to Vancouver on Robson Street (first location being in Richmond). After a delicious meal at Yui, Bob, Barb, and I decided to hit up Meet Fresh to end off the evening with a sweet note.
The two masters behind Meet Fresh, Mr. and Mrs. Fu 🙂
The interior of this place is very clean and inviting. They could have easily added a few more tables with the amount of open space they have between the dining area and till!
Since it was our first time at Meet Fresh, the obvious choice was to go with their Iced Meet Fresh Signature. After you pay at the front, they’ll give you a buzzer to let you know when your food is ready!
Drinks menu- quite expensive from what I can remember.. around $6+ for one!
Gotta do it right the first time.
Iced Meet Fresh Signature ($12.50) Herbal Ice, taro balls, cream. Super refreshing and not as sweet as I had imagined. The taro balls were delicious soft and slightly chewy. Texture was similar to tapioca pearls. The only negative aspect of this was the hefty price tag. It’s a decent portion size for 2-3 people to share and enjoy.
If you’re more of a sweet tooth, extra cream is available at an additional cost.
