HiFive Chicken is a Canadian-operated fast food chain offering fried and baked chicken, sandwiches, wings, and classic side dishes like coleslaw, onion rings, and potato wedges . They recently opened their second location in Burnaby (original being in Vancouver of March 2016) the past year or so and I was invited as a guest to sample a few of their menu items with the boyfriend! HiFive Chicken pride themselves on serving fresh never frozen farm raised chicken using natural ingredients with no added MSG. They also cook use zero trans fat oil to fry the chicken as a healthier alternative compared to other fast food chains!
Just like any other fast food restaurant, you order up at the till. The staff here are very friendly and approachable for those who have any questions about their menu. Of course being a chicken-focused franchise, their menu consists of mainly chicken! You can take a look at their menu here. Being a 24 hour operation they do have an extensive menu of breakfast items, appetizers, wraps, salads, sides, and dessert! Alongside their signature Fried or Baked Chicken, they have their signature chicken sandwiches and one veggie burger option. With the signature sandwiches, you get the option of choosing either baked or fried, regular or spicy. The boyfriend and I came here on a Friday evening and the place seemed quite popular with locals grabbing take-out / SkiptheDishes. I noticed that they had many different types of chicken available to grab and go at the front to prepare for the dinner rush.
A small booth area for customers who choose to dine in 🙂
Homestyle Spicy Sandwich Fried ($8.24) Burger bun, spicy fried chicken, lettuce, tomato, mayo. The boyfriend prefers his fried chicken spicy so it was no brainer that he ended up with this! He thoroughly enjoyed his chicken sandwich as it had a nice kick to it. He was quite surprised that the chicken was nice and moist – the sandwich also didn’t leave him feeling greasy.
Hi 5 Fried Chicken Sandwich ($8.24) Burger bun, fried chicken, lettuce, mayo, and cheddar cheese. Similar to the boyfriend’s spicy chicken sandwich except their signature chicken sandwich contains a slice of choose and no tomatoes. The sandwich was easy to stomach, however my only complaint is that my sandwich turned out a little on the cold side despite being nicely wrapped around aluminum foil 😦 You can see from the picture that my cheese didn’t melt and anchor onto my chicken! I appreciate that this was a whole chicken breast considering a lot of fast food places serve press-formed chicken patties. The seasoning on this chicken was more on the bland side but it was cooked perfectly as it was tender, juicy, and moist. You definitely need to dip the sandwich into their hot sauce or any condiment to pack in more flavour every bite.
Regular Baked Chicken (4 pcs $10.49 or 1 pc $2.79) Since boyfriend and I opted for fried chicken sandwiches, we decided to get the baked chicken and get the best of both worlds! We were both a huge fan of their baked chicken as it was flavourful, juicy, and moist! The baked chicken is marinated in a sweet BBQ flavour that wasn’t too overpowering. I highly recommend trying their baked chicken if you’re not in the mood for anything fried!
Overall, I enjoyed my experience here at Hi5 Chicken. Boyfriend and I normally don’t go out of our way for fast food much, but I do see us coming back for their baked chicken or spicy chicken sandwiches if we ever find ourselves craving fast food 🙂
Thank you HiFive for the invite!
